This double-action pistol was introduced in 1983. The automatic has a recoil locking system and repeats using the recoil energy of the cartridge that is fired. The barrel of the CZ 83 is fixed on the frame. The pistol is available in 7.65mm (.32 ACP) caliber with a magazine capacity of 15 rounds, and in 9 mm Makarov, both for 12 rounds. The model is 9 mm Makarov has a polygonal barrel, while the barrels of other models have standard grooves and lands. The total length of the CZ 83 is 172 mm (6 ¾ in), the barrel length is 97mm (3 ¾ in) and the height is 127 mm (5 in). The weapon weighs 800g (28 ¼ oz.) It has a slide catch on the left of the frame. This catch ensures that after the last shot the slide remains in the open position. There is an ambidextrous safety catch on each side of the frame. In order to dissemble the weapon, the trigger guard must be pulled down slightly at the front. The trigger guard is blocked with an extra safety mechanism when there is a magazine in the weapon. This also works the other way round, in the trigger guard is not properly secured in the frame, the magazine does not fit into the weapon. It also has a fixed rear sight. In 1996, CZ developed a modern version of this model. The main difference is the square trigger guard. Apart from this, the sight has a triple aspect tritium night sight.
